Instabilities in the Restricted Three Body Problem
Resumen:
One of the problems of Hamiltonian systems that appears naturally
in applications and has attracted attention for a long time is whether the
effect of periodic small perturbations of these models accumulate over ti-
me and lead to large effect (instability) or whether these effects average
out (stability). Recently, there has been a lot of progress in the mathema-
tical theory of these problems and a wide variety of methods have been
suggested.
For this talk, I will concentrate in the classical Restricted Three-Body
Problem of mechanics. I will review the main results that we have obtained
over the last years, showing instability of trajectories in certain regimes.
I will also describe the methods that we use, which are quite diverse
(analytic, geometric, topologic, and numeric).
If time permits, I will also propose some open problems.
